Moss Wood 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reviewed
We have been very concerned about the adverse publicity directed at the 2006 red wine vintage in Margaret River. Our fear is that this has led to unwarranted doubts about the quality of our Moss Wood 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and we wish to speak in its defence.
Every vintage is a challenge and 2006 was no different. We are proud of our efforts in that year and believe we made a wine that can more than hold its own in the Moss Wood stable. Such is our confidence we have run numerous tastings to allow people to judge for themselves.
To further support our case, we make the point that since the wine’s release, a number of commentators have written favourably about it and we have but two examples we wish to share.
Ralph Kyte-Powell in the Melbourne Age on Wed 22nd July 2009 said:
"One of Margaret River’s benchmark cabernets. It’s a restrained, austere wine in its youth. The 2006 couples focused blackcurrant and floral cabernet traits to cedary oak in a tight, savoury interplay; with age it will build complex subtleties and lovely, sustained impact.
- Cellaring? Yes two to 15 years.
- Food idea: rack of lamb roasted pink.
- Quality Rating: Superb Wine, a classic example of its type, worthy of the big occasion and the best company.
- Value: Reasonably priced relative to quality. A fair deal
- Rating: 5 stars" (out of 5, his highest rating)
Earlier this year, English critic Matthew Jukes selected the wine in his Top 100 Australian Wines for 2009. Matthew commented:
"This vintage won’t be released for a while but you should register your interest now because it is a truly spectacular Cabernet reminiscent of Moss Wood’s greatest achievements. Margaret River’s comparison to Bordeaux is often spoken about but it is Wilyabrup’s direct comparison to the finer plots in Pauillac that intrigues me more. There really is a distinguished air to this wine that can only be found in the top wines of these regions. P.S. 2006 Amy’s Blend is, not surprisingly awesome too, and it is very nearly drinking and eminently affordable. Get in quick."

We hope this reassures those who have already purchased this wine and those who may be thinking of doing so. If you have any other questions we would be delighted to answer them.
